Roscoe Patterson is a black man who was murdered in a racist lynching by white men.

He is seen in a flashback after being mentioned by Robert Freeman in a conversation with Huey, who were arguing about the film Soul Plane. When Huey described the movie as being "as funny as a lynching", Robert remarks that he does in fact know about a "funny lynching", and brings up the tale of Roscoe Patterson's demise.

In a flashback, we see Patterson talking with a friend and some kids, talking about how he was warned to leave town, lest he be lynched. He mocks the warning, and white supremacy in general, to the amusement of the kids watching. Unfortunately for Patterson, he is soon spotted by a white lynch mob and chased off-screen to his doom. Robert remarks that it "wasn't really funny after that".
